Kitsch Is Game For "Battleship"

Canadian actor (no drawling American accent) Taylor Kitsch, currently shooting Disney's 3D take on author Edgar Rice Burrough's "John Carter Of Mars" will next star in director Peter Berg’s adaptation of the board game "Battleship".

Kitsch will play commander 'Alex Hopper' who leads a fleet of naval ships in the fight against an 'alien' armada. Screenplay is by writers Jon and Eric Hoeber.

"Battleship" is scheduled for a 2012 release, with shooting to start later this year.

The original "Battleship", an unpatented game created by Clifford Von Wickler in the early 1900's, was subsequently taken by the Milton Bradley Company in 1943 and released as the pad-and-pencil game "Broadsides, the Game of Naval Strategy".

The game has since been updated for various platforms, including video games.
