"Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" is the new fantasy/adventure feature from director Chris "Harry Potter" Columbus, adapting "The Lightning Thief", the first novel in the "Percy Jackson & The Olympians" series by author Rick Riordan.
Set in the US, the books are based on Greek mythology,with protagonist 'Percy Jackson', discovering that he is the son of 'Poseidon', god of the sea and earthquakes.
He learns that the legendary beings of Greek mythology exist, including cyclops, 'Titans' and the 'Olympians' (Greek gods) who dwell in 'Olympus', now situated at the top of the Empire State Building.
While Jackson is frequently attacked by monsters because he is a child of one of the 'Big Three' ('Zeus', 'Poseidon' and 'Hades'), he also meets up with other young 'demigods', friendly and hostile, who are also in the process of discovering their heritage and powers.
