"The Runaways" is the upcoming biopic written/directed by Floria Sigismondi, featuring music by 'The Runaways', the 1970's all-girl rock band.The film adapts Runaways lead-singer Cherie Currie's 1989 autobiography "Neon Angel: The Cherie Currie Story" detailing the group's rise to fame, her battle with and subsequent recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
The film will premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival January 24th, then released to select North American theatres March 19, 2010.Kristen Stewart is 'Joan Jett', co-founding member and rhythm guitarist of the band, Dakota Fanning is 'Cherie Currie', the band's lead vocalist, Scout Taylor-Compton is 'Lita Ford', the band's lead guitarist, Stella Maeve is 'Sandy West', co-founding member/drummer of the band, Alia Shawkat is 'Robin', the band's bassist and Michael Shannon is Kim Fowley, the band's manager and producer.
