Actor Ben "Gandhi" Kingsley and his Brazilian, actress wife Daniela Lavender will star in the $30 million feature "Taj", based on true events, recounting the relationship between 16th century Indian Mughal emperor 'Shah Jahan', builder of the 'Taj Mahal' and his Persian wife 'Kandahari Begum'.
Kingsley will produce the film for his SBK Pictures, from a screenplay by Brit playwright, novelist, actor David Ashton.
The 'Taj Mahal' was intended as a mausoleum in memory of the emperor's favourite wife, 'Mumtaz Mahal'. The structure is considered the finest example of Mughal architecture, combining Persian and Indian styles, in an integrated complex of structures, taking 20 years to complete, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen.
