Actress Lori "Tank Girl" Petty makes her directorial debut with "The Poker House", a new feature about a teenage girl trying to survive the circumstances of her life with dignity, humour, and basketball.

The film is in a limited theatrical release and will be out on DVD August 18.

Petty scripted "The Poker House" with writer David Alan Grier, as a true 'coming-of-age story' based on her own life.

Premise follows 'Agnes' (Jennifer Lawrence) and her sisters 'Cammie' and 'Bee' as they grow up in a household run by their drug-addicted, prostitute mother 'Sarah' (Selma "Hellboy" Blair), a pimp for a father figure and a home filled with gamblers, criminals and johns.

Agnes, who is 14, raises her sisters and manages the household while still keeping up with her schoolwork and basketball team.
