"Wild Roses" is a new 13-part TV series debuting on CBC Jan. 6, set in the heart of the Canadian oil and cattle country, featuring a wealthy "Dallas"-like family, headed by a greedy oil man who's always scheming against a rival, debt-ridden family.
CBC describes the show as "...a Shakespearean tale of two families clashing over land, love and loyalty" set in Calgary and surrounding ranch country, where the series was filmed.
Tassie Cameron created the show with her sister, Amy Cameron and executive producer Miranda de Pencier. Amy wrote the pilot thinking of a modern "Deadwood " set on the Prairies focusing on strong female characters.
The story focuses on the 'Henry' clan, owners of a piece of land that 'David', the patriarch of the 'McGregor' family, wants to get his hands on. The land was a gift from David's father, who left it to ranch hand 'Max Henry', David's former best friend. When Max died, his widow 'Maggie Henry' (Kim Huffman) took over the ranch, that she tries to keep with the help of daughters 'Lucy' (Sarah Power), 'Kate' (Michelle Harrison) and 'Charlotte' (Clare Stone). Then things start to get complicated when David's sons become involved with the Henry women...
