Actress Kristen "Twilight" Stewart will play singer/guitarist Joan Jett in the biopic "The Runaways," based on the exploits of the 1970's rock band.
'The Runaways' are noted as the first commercially successful all-girl hard rock band featuring guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox.
The band was put together in 1975 by rock impresario Kim Fowley, who thought a novelty act of teenage girls performing in leather would be an easy sell, but the group only lasted four years, eventually breaking apart over management/money issues.
Jett continued into the 1980's, forming a new group "The Blackhearts", releasing top-10 hits including "I Love Rock N' Roll".
Premise of "The Runaways" will follow Jett and Currie as teenagers up to the band's final days.
