Starz Entertainment, Sam "Spider-Man" Raimi, Rob "Xena" Tapert and Joshua Donen are executive producing an updated take of the historical gladiator uprising story "Spartacus" as a 13-episode TV series, with Steven S. DeKnight as head writer.
The series will start production in New Zealand in 2009 for a summer debut on Starz, budgeted at $2 million per episode.'Spartacus', according to Roman historians, was a slave who became the leader of an unsuccessful slave uprising against the Roman Republic known as the 'Third Servile War'.
