"Doctor Strange": Sorcerer Supreme On The Big Screen...

According to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, Marvel Comics 'Sorcerer Supreme' "Doctor Strange", will be developed into a big screen feature.

"I'd say in the next year, year and a half, as we start putting together our film slate for 2012 and 2013, I would not be shocked if we saw 'Doctor Strange' on those lists, " said Feige.

"I love the idea of tapping into the magical realm of the 'Marvel Universe', which is fairly significant and hasn't yet seen life on screen. It's something I'm very, very interested in..."

Debuting in the Marvel Comics title "Strange Tales" #110 (July 1963), the premise behind "Doctor Strange", created by writer/editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Steve "Spider-Man" Ditko, focused on 'Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange', an arrogant medical surgeon who becomes a recluse after a reckless car accident, losing the mobility of his fingers.

Strange wanders aimlessly through life until he finds salvation and magic in Tibet, through the mystical teachings of the 'Ancient One'.

After saving the Ancient One's life from a deadly spell, Strange comes back to New York City and uses his occult knowledge to battle vengeful entities that continue to infiltrate the material world...

A 1978 live-action TV-movie version of "Doctor Strange" starred actor Peter Hooten, written/directed by executive producer Philip DeGuere for Universal Television.

In 2007, Lionsgate and Marvel released a "Doctor Strange" full-length animated DVD feature...
