Canadian film actress Rachel McAdams will star opposite Robert Downey Jr. in "Sherlock Holmes," a reimagining of author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's investigative character that Guy "Snatch" Ritchie is directing for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.

Starting next month, the film will be an adaptation of a new comic book that producer Lionel Wigram wrote as a selling tool for a new take on Holmes.

Actor Mark Strong ("RocknRolla") has been cast as the main villain 'Blackwood', with Jude Law portraying Holmes' colleague 'Dr. Watson'.

McAdams will play Holmes' love interest 'Irene Adler', a character that first appeared in Doyle's 1891 "A Scandal in Bohemia."
Producers of the new film are Joel Silver, Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Li, with
