Bird's Eye View For "Maximum Ride"...

Columbia Pictures has acquired film rights to "Maximum Ride", a bestselling young adult novel series by author James Patterson.

Columbia has set Don "Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer" Payne to write the adapted screeenplay.

Premise of the fantasy stories, focus on six kids, genetically altered to be 98% human and 2% bird.

Bred to fly, the protagonists escape a lab-rat existence, only to be pursued by their own creators, who send a pack of chimera wolves, aka 'Erasers' to hunt them down.

The fifth installment of the book series will be published next year.

Seaside Entertainment’s Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul will produce.

Author Patterson will be executive producer.

"The 'Maximum Ride' books use man-made mutation as a metaphor of humans trying to take advantage of human frailty and interfere with nature," Arad said.
