Canadian actress Rachel McAdams is lobbying to play DC Comics superhero character "Black Orchid". It is not known if the character will cameo in the Vancouver-filmed series "Smallville".'Black Orchid' debuted in DC's Adventure Comics #428 (July 1973), with flying, invulnerability and 'master of disguise' super powers, solving crime cases impersonating maids and secretaries, then leaving a black orchid flower as her 'calling card'.
After a run in "Adventure Comics" #428–430, the character appeared in comic book series "The Phantom Stranger" and "Suicide Squad".In 1988, Black Orchid was relaunched as a three-part prestige format limited series written by Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean, focusing on 'Susan Linden-Thorne', a 'human-plant hybrid' with ties to the 'Green', who dies and then replaced by 'Flora Black'.
In 1993, the DC-Vertigo "Black Orchid" series, written by Dick Foreman, ran 22 issues for 2 years. This version of the character used 'pheromone manipulation' for mind control, marrying 'Elliot Weems' to claim his fortune.
