McAdams Rooting For DC's "Black Orchid"...

Canadian actress Rachel McAdams is lobbying to play DC Comics superhero character "Black Orchid". It is not known if the character will cameo in the Vancouver-filmed series "Smallville".

'Black Orchid' debuted in DC's Adventure Comics #428 (July 1973), with flying, invulnerability and 'master of disguise' super powers, solving crime cases impersonating maids and secretaries, then leaving a black orchid flower as her 'calling card'.

After a run in "Adventure Comics" #428–430, the character appeared in comic book series "The Phantom Stranger" and "Suicide Squad".

In 1988, Black Orchid was relaunched as a three-part prestige format limited series written by Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean, focusing on 'Susan Linden-Thorne', a 'human-plant hybrid' with ties to the 'Green', who dies and then replaced by 'Flora Black'.

In 1993, the DC-Vertigo "Black Orchid" series, written by Dick Foreman, ran 22 issues for 2 years. This version of the character used 'pheromone manipulation' for mind control, marrying 'Elliot Weems' to claim his fortune. She became a villain before perishing in the final issue, with her companion 'Suzy' becoming the next Black Orchid...
