CBC Television begins a seven-city audition process Jan. 25 for a reality TV program debuting summer 2008, looking for a new 'Maria' to star in a Toronto theatrical production of "The Sound of Music".The winner will star at the Princess of Wales Theatre for a Mirvish production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.
"We are thrilled to offer Canadians this unique opportunity to help select the next star of one of the world's most beloved musicals," said Kirstine Layfield, executive director, network programming , CBC Television.
In the U.K., the reality TV search for Maria made a star of Briton Connie Fisher , leading to an extended London run of the musical.
Open calls will be held in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Halifax and St. John's, with a group of 200 selected for callbacks.
A panel of judges and Canadian TV viewers will choose the winner...
