Revenue Upswing For Cineplex Entertainment...

Canada's leading film exhibitor, Cineplex Entertainment, has posted its best-ever financial results, with revenue increased to C$244 million up 22.6% from $213 million in the same quarter last year.

Attendance in the quarter was up 19.1 million from 15.4 million.

The upswing in revenue was driven by strong performances of films and the exhibitor's "Big Ticket Tuesday" promotion.

The big-earning films were "Transformers', "Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix", "Ratatouille' and "The Simpsons Movie".

Candy/coke concessions also increased 25% from the same quarter last year to $77 million.

Cineplex Galaxy Income Trust owns 76% of Cineplex Entertainment, with Toronto-based Onex holding 22%.
