"Death Race" Accelerates Montreal Start

The remake of producer "Jolly" Roger Corman's "Deathrace 2000" is now titled "Death Race" and is set to start filming in Montreal this October.

To be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, cast will include actors Jason Statham, Ian McShane and Natalie Martinez.

"Death Race 2000" was directed by Paul "Eating Raoul" Bartel in 1975, set in the 'dystopian' American society of 2000, starring actors David Carradine, Sylvester Stallone and Mary Woronov.

Screenplay was based on the short story "The Racer" by Ib Melchior, focusing on the 'Transcontinental Road Race', a violent spectacle that takes a small set of auto racers from New York to Los Angeles, where points are awarded for the number of car accident street kills, depending on age and gender.
