"The Simpsons Movie" Hits A Homer

The PG-13 rated "The Simpsons Movie" has scored the third-highest opening weekend for an animated film, with an estimated $71.8 million domestic from 3,922 playdates.

The film also earned $96 million from 71 international territories for a worldwide total box office of $167.8 million.

"The Simpsons Movie" was budgeted at $75 million, based on the animated TV series that has been in production for 18 years.

"You have a multi-generational effect. That's what hit the nerve," said 20th Century Fox about the success of the film.
