Del Toro Going Straight To "Hellboy"

"Hellboy 2: The Golden Army", director Guillermo del Toro's sequel to his 2004 Revolution feature (review here), based on creator Mike Mignola's Dark Horse Comics characters, is currently prepping for production with a scheduled August 1st, 2008 release date set by Universal Pictures.

Actor Ron Perlman will reprise the title role of 'Hellboy', a humanoid creature born in Hell and brought to Earth as an infant. Raised in secret, the adolescent 'HB' becomes an agent for the 'Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development' (BPRD), a covert government agency, serving as the planet's only line of defense against 'otherworldly evil'.

Actress Selma Blair returns as 'Liz Sherman', a 'pyrokinetic' human, HB's colleague and main squeeze.

In "Hellboy 2 : The Golden Army", an ancient 'truce' existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken. Along with his BPRD team, Hellboy, Liz, the aquatic empath 'Abe' (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic 'Johann' travel between the surface strata and an unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal.

Hellboy, a creature of two worlds, accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny...

Director del Toro was recently Oscar-nominated for directing "Pan's Labyrinth".
