Butler Is 'Plissken' in "Escape From New York"

Actor Gerard "300" Butler will star as 'Snake Plissken' in an updated remake of John Carpenter's 1981 feature "Escape From New York".

Neal Moritz will produce from a screenplay by Ken "Black Hawk Down" Nolan.

The Snake Plissken character is a one-eyed, ex-convict assigned to break into the maximum security prison formerly known as 'Manhattan' to liberate the US president.

Actor Kurt Russell, doing his best Clint Eastwood homage, originated the role, then reprised it in the 1996 sequel "Escape To L.A.".
