MGM TV Blasts Off With "Spaceballs" The Cartoon

MGM TV has commissioned an animated series based on writer/director Mel Brooks' 1987 sci fi comedy feature "Spaceballs".

The one-hour pilot and 13 half-hour episodes, represent the first scripted series greenlit by the new TV division at MGM, led by Jim Packer.

The series will blast off on the G4 network, with over 59 million subscribers, fall 2007.

The original "Spaceballs" writing team of Brooks, Thomas Meehan and Ronnie Graham, penned the new pilot, with Meehan agreeing to script supervise 13 half-hours.

Brooks will voice the 'President Skroob' and 'Yogurt' characters he played in the original movie.
