Yakin Cuts In On Warners "Conan the Barbarian"

Warner Bros Pictures have signed Boaz Yakin to write (and potentially direct) "Conan the Barbarian", described as a 'new take' on author Robert E. Howard's Cimmerian pulp character.

The studio is looking at an early 2007 production start for the feature, produced by Irving Azoff, Jon Jashni, Richard Alexander and Akiva Goldsman.

Peter Sederowsky and Fredrik Malmberg of Paradox, the intellectual property company that controls rights to the Howard estate, will executive produce.

Yakin is noted for directing "Fresh" and "Remember the Titans".

Yakin's concept will reportedly be more 'faithful' to the original Howard story than were the two previous "Conan" films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
