THQ Sees "Red Faction" The Movie

According to games publisher THQ, plans are underway to develop a "Red Faction" film, to be released in conjunction with the next video game in the series, scheduled to be released before March 2011.

The first "Red Faction", first-person shooter game, released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, Microsoft Windows, and Macintosh by THQ and Volition, is set on the planet Mars in the late 21st century. The player controls a miner named 'Parker' who helps lead a rebellion against the 'Ultor Corporation'.

The sequel, "Red Faction II", released for PlayStation 2, October 2002, is set on Earth and tells the story of a group of super soldiers, including the main character, who are physically enhanced by 'nanotechnology'.

June 15, 2009 THQ released "Red Faction: Guerrilla", for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows, where the 'Earth Defense Force' has become as tyrannical an organization as 'Ultor'.

THQ is confident the appeal of the franchise's outer-space colonization premise will translate well to the big screen, with THQ core VP Danny Bilson revealing that the company is looking to launch several films alongside its 'triple-A' titles, in a 'trans-media' strategy. Bilson further confirmed that THQ has been actively pitching studios on film adaptations for both "Red Faction" and "Darksiders".

"Darksiders", aka "Wrath of War", developed by Vigil Games, published by THQ takes its inspiration from the 'apocalypse', with the player taking the role of 'War'.

The game was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, January 2010 in North America and Europe, with a PC version to be released June, 2010.
