The Fox TV special, "Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show" will air Sunday, Nov. 8, with live action from series creator/voice over artist Seth MacFarlane and co-star Alex Borstein, featuring the show's most popular musical numbers/comedy sketches, new animation sequences and celebrity guest appearances.

The 'variety show' will debut commercial-free, with integrated product promotion for Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system.

MacFarlane and Borstein helped create/produce the Microsoft spots that will air during the special.

MacFarlane will also host spin-off series "American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show"...

MGM's hour-long, Vancouver-lensed sci-fi TV series "Stargate Universe (SGU)" has reported impressive debuts in the US, UK, Canada and Australia.

"With this success, 'SGU' continues to be a very important franchise in the MGM family along with 'James Bond', 'Pink Panther', 'The Hobbit' and 'Rocky'," said Gary Marenzi, Co-President, MGM Worldwide Television.

"Many of our characters are younger, inexperienced and should not be on this mission," said Brad Wright, co-creator of "SGU".

"This opens the door to relationships and storylines that younger audiences want to see."

"SGU" debuted in the US on Syfy to the best franchise premiere performance in four years, drawing more than 2.3 million viewers.

In Canada, "SGU" premiered on SPACE with a record breaking audience of 565,000 making it SPACE's highest rated single episode ever.

Launching on Sky1 in the UK, SGU delivered 1,042,000 viewers for episode one and 961,000 for episode two.

In Australia, "SGU" was the best performing show on the Sci-Fi pay television platform, posting a 6.4% share. This performance represented an increase of 411% in the time slot (Fridays 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.)

Based on the 1994 feature film "Stargate," MGM's sci-fi franchise was born in 1997 when "Stargate SG-1" (SG-1) made its TV debut on Showtime. After five seasons, the series moved to the Sci-Fi Channel airing until 2007.

With 10 seasons and 214 episodes, "SG-1" surpassed "The X-Files" in 2007 as the longest-running North American science fiction series on television. The next chapter in the "Stargate" franchise, Vancouver-lensed "Stargate Atlantis," premiered on the Sci-Fi Channel and The Movie Network in 2004, ending a 100 episode run, January 2009...

VIFF 2009: "Eighteen" Wins "Dragons & Tigers" Award...

The South Korean feature "Eighteen" has won the $10,000 cash prize "Dragons & Tigers" Award @ the 28th Annual Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF).

The annual prize is awarded during VIFF to an emerging filmmaker from the Asia-Pacific region who hasn't yet gained international recognition.

Directed by Jang Kun-jae, "Eighteen" focuses on a seaside vacation taken by a high-school couple, without their parents' permission.

"...During their winter break, 'Kim Tae-Hoon' takes his girlfriend 'Park Mi-Jeong' away to the seaside for several days. Neither of them has parental permission for the trip, and when they get back to Seoul, Mi-Jeong’s father becomes dangerously violent, demanding that the boy sign a pledge to stay away from his daughter.

But Tae-Hoon, who earns pocket-money as a delivery boy for a Chinese restaurant, is rebellious by nature and tries to contact Mi-Jeong by all means possible..."

The Jury also gave a 'special mention' to director Ralston Jover's "Bakal Boys", following young scrap-metal salvagers in Manila, Philippines...

Vancouver Start For "30 Days of Night: Dark Days"- October 20...

The "30 Days Of Night" direct-to-DVD, horror movie sequel "30 Days Of Night: Dark Days" will lense in Vancouver, October 20 to November 24.

Main character 'Stella Olsen' (Melissa George) returns as part of a group of 'vampires' out for revenge, in a new sceenplay written by Steve Niles and Ben Ketai, who also wrote two "30 Days of Night" webseries.

Ketai will direct "Dark Days".

The original "30 Days of Night" feature, filmed in 2007, adapted the comic book mini-series of the same name, directed by David Slade, starring actors Josh Hartnett, Melissa George and Danny Huston.

Premise of that movie focused on the Alaskan town of 'Barrow', cursed with vampires, as it enters into a thirty day period without sunshine.

Cameron's "Box" Opens Wide

"The Box" is an upcoming horror feature based on the 1970 short story "Button, Button" by author Richard "I Am legend" Matheson, written/directed by Richard "Donnie Darko" Kelly, starring actors Cameron "The Mask" Diaz and James "X-Men" Marsden as a couple who receive a box with a mysterious power.

Production started November 2007, wrapping February 2008.

Set in Richmond, Virginia, circa 1976, premise follows a financially strapped, married couple (Diaz and Marsden) who receive a box containing a push-button.

The next morning a mysterious stranger (Frank "Dracula" Langella), tells them that pushing the button on the box will have two consequences.

First, someone in the world who they don't know will die.

Second, they will receive $1,000,000.

Warners will release "The Box" November 6, 2009.

"Cabin In The Woods", aka "Mordecai", the Vancouver-lensed horror feature from director Drew "Cloverfield" Goddard and producer Joss "Dollhouse" Whedon, has been pushed back to a January 14, 2011 release, in order to convert the feature into 3D.

Premise of "The Cabin in the Woods" follows a group of college kids who spend a weekend at a mysterious cabin in the woods...

In the wake of Playboy Enterprises promoting Alex L. Vaickus to the newly created position of president, with responsibility for all of Playboy’s business operations, including print, television, digital media properties and licensing comes a new look for Playboy Magazine's November 2009 cover, featuring creator Matt Groening's 'Marge Simpson' character from the Fox cartoon TV series "The Simpsons".

The showcase of the blue-haired wife of 'Homer Simpson' is the first time Playboy Magazine has given the cover spot to a cartoon character. Marge will also receive a 2-page magazine centerfold.

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner has always been a huge fan of cartoon illustrators including Playboy's own "Little Annie Fanny" from Harvey Kutzman, Bill Elder and Frank Frazetta and the morbidly amusing works of Gahan Wilson...

"Women in Trouble" is the upcoming, ensemble comedy feature, written, produced and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, starring Carla "Watchmen" Gugino, Elizabeth "Showgirls" Berkely, Cameron Richardson and Adrianne Palicki.

The film is described as "...a serpentine day in the life of ten seemingly disparate women, including a porn star, flight attendant, psychiatrist, masseuse, bartender and a pair of call girls, with one crucial thing in common: A capacity for trouble'..."

In Budapest, Hungary contestants showed off breast implants, nose jobs and face lifts as 'Miss Plastic Hungary 2009' strove to promote the benefits of plastic surgery in a country where enhancements are viewed with a wary eye.

To qualify for the pageant, 18 Hungarian women had to prove they'd gone fully under the knife, with Botox/collagen injections not counting.

Nearly all contestants reportedly showed off augmented breasts and reshaped noses with one finalist presenting 'surgically adjusted' toes.

Organizers claimed contestants showed "...a perfect harmony of body and soul...".

Candidates were at least 18 years old, including a former rhythmic gymnast, a firefighter married to a police officer, a mother of three and several strippers. There was also a special category for women over 30.

Pageant queen Reka Urban, a 22-year-old hostess, won an apartment in Budapest, first runner-up Edina Kulcsar was given a new car and second runner-up Alexandra Horvath won diamond jewelry worth 2 million 'forints' ($10,800)...

'Carnage' Creates Chaos For "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2"...

Activision's "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2" video game has added the "Spider-Man" super villain 'Carnage' as an add-on.

The character was a killer called 'Cletus Kasady' and became 'Carnage' after merging with the offspring of 'Venom', creating chaos whereever he appears.

"...Carnage will allow gamers to experience 'Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2' from a totally new perspective - be careful though, evil has never been so good..."

The Heat Is On For EA's "Dante's Inferno"...

Electronic Arts' Visceral Games division, have confirmed that Oscar-nominated writer Will "Monster's Ball" Rokos will script the story line for "Dante's Inferno", a new video game adaptation, based on 'Part 1' of author Dante Alighieri's poem "The Divine Comedy".

"The task of adapting a revered and classic piece of literature for the gaming medium was a tremendous challenge,' said Jonathan Knight, executive producer "Dante's Inferno".

"Dante Alighieri's masterpiece forms the foundation of the game's plot, but Will's take on the 'Beatrice' story brought the necessary conflict and action that made the material really work dramatically."

"Taking such a naturally rich and deep universe and adapting for the video game has been one of the most interesting and challenging projects I've worked on," said Rokos.

"I really got into re-imagining Dante as a flawed hero with a dark past, and his determination to save the love of his life from a terrible fate. It was a truly unique experience to re-create one man's hell, one circle at a time."

In the game, players will assume the role of 'Dante' as he fights through the 'nine circles of hell' : 'limbo', 'lust', 'gluttony', 'greed', 'anger', 'heresy', 'violence', 'fraud' and 'treachery'.

"Dante's Inferno" will be released in North America February 9, 2010...

Legendary Pictures ("The Dark Knight") has acquired film rights to the Avatar Press comic book series "Gravel", created by Warren Ellis.

Premise follows 'William Gravel', a soldier in the 'British S.A.S.' who uses magic and mercenary skills to battle supernatural beings for paying clients.

Ellis will script the initial draft for the film adaptation...

Disney-owned ABC TV has handed full-season pickups to the single-camera half-hour situation comedies "Modern Family," "Cougar Town" and "The Middle."

The 'mockumentary' "Modern Family" debuting September 23, 2009 was created by Christopher Lloyd/Steven Levitan, produced by Fox Television Studios.

Premise follows the families of 'Jay Pritchett' (Ed "Married With Children" O'Neill), his daughter 'Claire Dunphy' (Julie Bowen) and his son 'Mitchell Pritchett' (Jesse Tyler Ferguson).

Claire is a homemaker mom in a traditional family, Jay is married to a younger woman, raising a pre-teen stepson, while gay Mitchell and his partner adopt an Asian baby.

"Cougar Town", also premiering September 23, focuses on a recently divorced woman (Courteney Cox) who re-enters the 'dating scene', embarking on a journey to self-discovery surrounded by fellow divorcees.

Created by Bill Lawrence/Kevin Biegel, produced by Coquette Productions, in association with ABC Studios, broadcast of the "Cougar Town" pilot garnered 11.28 million viewers.

"The Middle" premiered September 30, starring actress Patricia Heaton as a middle-class, Midwestern mother of three.

"...'Frankie' and her husband 'Mike' have lived in Indiana their whole lives. Mike is a manager at the town quarry and has a sarcastic streak and tendency towards brutal honesty. Frankie is the third-best used car salesman at the local dealership. She may not be a high-powered career woman, but when it comes to her family, she'll go to just about any length. With kids like hers, she often needs to. 'Axl', her semi-nudist teenage son was conceived with 'Guns N' Roses' playing a significant role, 'Sue', the awkward teenage daughter fails at everything she attempts with great gusto and seven year old son 'Brick' counts his backpack as his best friend..."

"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" is the UK/British Columbia-lensed fantasy feature directed by Terry "Fear And Loathing In Las vegas" Gilliam, written by Gilliam and Charles McKeown.

The feverishly, surreal film follows the leader of a travelling theatre troupe who, having made a deal with the Devil, takes audience members through a magical mirror to explore their imaginations.

Canadian actor Christopher "The Silent Partner" Plummer, singer Tom Waits and the late Heath Ledger star in the film, though Ledger's death one-third of the way through filming caused production to be temporarily suspended. Ledger's role was then recast with actors Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell portraying transformations of Ledger's character 'Tony' as he travels through a dream world.

The film received a PG-13 rating for "violent images, some sensuality, language and smoking".

"...In the present day, immortal 1,000-year-old 'Doctor Parnassus' (Plummer) leads a traveling theatre troupe—including a sleight of hand expert 'Anton' (Andrew Garfield) and a dwarf 'Percy' (Verne Troyer), that offers audience members a chance to go beyond reality through a magical mirror in his possession. Parnassus had been able to guide the imagination of others through a deal with the Devil (Tom Waits), who now comes to collect on the arrangement, targeting the doctor's daughter (Lily Cole).
