Lucas Flys With "Red Tails"

Executive producer George Lucas has confirmed that the action adventure "Red Tails" will be released by 20th Century Fox, January 20, 2012.

Inspired by the WW II exploits of the first all African-American aerial combat unit,"Red Tails" is produced by Rick McCallum and Charles Floyd Johnson for director Anthony Hemingway ("Battlestar Galactica").

"I am humbled and honored to direct the story of the 'Tuskegee Airmen' -- heroes who have paved the way so others could have the opportunity to pursue their dreams," said Hemingway.

"Red Tails" stars Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston, Nate Parker, David Oyelowo, Tristan Wilds, Cliff Smith aka Method Man, Kevin Phillips, Rick Otto, Lee Tergesen, Andre Royo, Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelley, Marcus T. Paulk, Leslie Odom Jr., Michael B. Jordan and Daniela Ruah.

Scripted by John Ridley, the film was shot in Prague, Italy, Croatia and England.

"I've wanted to do this film for a great many years," said Lucas.

"'The Tuskegee Airmen' were such superb pilots that it was essential for us (ILM) to create visual effects that would live up to their heroism and put audiences in the cockpit with them."

'Red Tails' was the name of the first group of black airmen to serve as pilot escorts for American bombers, over Italy and Germany in 1945. Under President Franklin Roosevelt, the US soldiers were first sent to Tuskegee, Alabama to train.

"Voltron": The Legend Begins - August 16

Classic Media, in collaboration with World Events Productions (WEP), will release the first seven episodes of the 1980's animated, robot-themed, TV action series, "Voltron: Defender Of The Universe" on a brand new DVD, titled "Voltron: The Legend Begins":

"...the saga begins with the origin story, when a brave team of space explorers, 'Keith', 'Lance', 'Sven', 'Hunk' and 'Pidge', search for the keys to five mythical robot lions on the planet 'Arus'.

"Arus has been destroyed by the armies of 'King Zarkon' and his use of giant 'Robeast' monsters created by the witch 'Haggar'. The planet's only hope lies in the discovery of these five robot lions, which combine together to form the mighty robot, 'Voltron: Defender of the Universe'..."

The original "Voltron" cartoon series was created by Peter Keefe in 1983 using material licensed from the Japanese cartoons "Beast King GoLion" and 'Armored Fleet Dairugger XV".

The producers had no means of translating the Japanese series into English, so they created all-new dialogue, editing out the more violent scenes and remixing the audio into a stereo format.
Subsequently the series was an immediate hit in North America, topping the syndication market for children's programs in the mid-1980's.

A "Voltron" live-action feature is also currently in development, thanks to the billion dollar success of the "Transformers" movie franchise, based on the Hasbro 'mecha' toys.

A "Voltron" video game is also in development.

"Voltron: The Legend Begins" will be released August 16, 2011.
