Elle and Dakota Fanning

Elle Fanning made her film debut as a child as the younger version of her sister Dakota Fanning's character in the drama film “I Am Sam” (2001). 


She appeared in several other films as a child actress, including “Daddy Day Care” (2003), “Babel” (2006), “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (2008), “Phoebe in Wonderland” (2008) and the miniseries “The Lost Room (2006).


She then had leading roles in Sofia Coppola's drama “Somewhere” (2010) and J. J. Abrams' science fiction film “Super 8” (2011).  


Fanning played ‘Princess Aurora’ in the fantasy films “Maleficent” (2014) and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” (2019), starred in Nicolas Winding Refn's “The Neon Demon” (2016), Coppola's “The Beguiled” (2017), James Mangold's “A Complete Unknown” (2024), and Joachim Trier's “Sentimental Value” (2025). 


 On television, she starred as ‘Catherine the Great’ in the Hulu period satire series “The Great” (2020–2023) and as ‘Michelle Carter’ in the Hulu limited series “The Girl from Plainville” (2022). 


She currently stars in the feature “Predator: Badlands” (2025).


Dakota Fanning received recognition as a child. starring in the drama film “I Am Sam” (2001), followed by the miniseries “Taken” (2002), and in the films “Uptown Girls” (2003), “Man on Fire” (2004), “War of the Worlds” (2005), “Charlotte's Web” (2006) and “The Secret Life of Bees” (2008). 


She transitioned to mature roles with “The Twilight Saga” (2009–2012) and independent films “The Runaways” (2010) and “Night Moves” (2013). Dakota has since appeared in “Ocean's 8” (2018), “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (2019), and “The Equalizer 3” (2023). 


Television series include “The Alienist” (2018), “The First Lady” (2022) and “The Perfect Couple” (2024). She has also had a starring role in “The Watchers” (2024) and “Ripley” (2024).
