Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”) will produce a new live-action “Archie” movie for Universal Pictures, scripted by Tom King (“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”) reportedly inspired, by the comic book title “Archie: The Married Life”, presenting two alternate futures — one in which Archie marries girl-next-door ‘Betty Cooper’ and one where he marries spoiled sex-pot ‘Veronica Lodge’:
Producers are Emma Watts with “Archie Comics” CEO publisher Jon Goldwater and Aditya Sood, president of Lord Miller.
Universal Pictures’ Britt Hennemuth and Christine Sun will oversee the feature for the studio.
The "Archie" character debuted in "Pep Comics" #22, December 22, 1941, illustrated by Bob Montana and written by Vic Bloom…
… with the intent by comics publisher John L. Goldwater to appeal to fans of the "Andy Hardy" movies starring actor Mickey Rooney.
"Archie Comics", the title of the company's longest running publication, first appeared on newstands in 1942.
EC Comics’ “Mad” magazine also published a parody of the characters as juvenile delinquents ‘Starchie’ and ‘Bottleneck’, by writer Harvey Kurtzman and illustrator Will Elder, published in 1954.
