Green Light For "Lanterns"

HBO has given a straight-to-series order for "Lanterns", based on DC Comics 'Green Lantern' characters  'John Stewart' and 'Hal Jordan', with Chris Mundy ("Ozark") as showrunner on the eight-episode superhero drama series, that instead of traditional 'space opera', will be a terrestrial-based investigation story,
following two ‘intergalactic cops' as they are lured into a dark mystery:

“…’Hal Jordan’ is a former fighter pilot who works for ‘Ferris Aircraft’ as a test pilot, a member and occasionally leader of an intergalactic police force called the ‘Green Lantern Corps’.

“His powers derive from his ‘power ring’ and ‘Green Lantern’ battery, which in the hands of someone capable of overcoming great fear…

“…allows the user to channel their will power into creating fantastic constructs.

“Jordan uses this power to fly, even through the vacuum of space; to create shields, swords and lasers; and to construct his Green Lantern costume…

“..which protects his secret identity in his civilian life on Earth.

“‘John Stewart’  (no connection to the cokehead comedian), is an architect, later retconned into a veteran ‘US Marine’ from Detroit, Michigan, who was selected by the ‘Guardians’ as a backup for Hal Jordan after previous backup, hot-head ‘Guy Gardner’, was seriously injured after getting hit by a car.

“Although Jordan objected to the decision after seeing that Stewart had a belligerent attitude to authority figures…

“…the Guardians stood by their decision…”
