Actors Russell Crowe as 'Maximus' and Joaquin Phoenix as 'Commodus' both die in the 'Roman Arena' at the end of director Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" (2000), with Connie Nielsen as 'Lucilla' taking leadership of Rome. Now Scott will resurrect Maximus in new flashback scenes for the developing DreamWorks feature "Gladiator 2", starring actor Paul Mescal:
