"Dune" Movie Prequel

Boom! Studios' "Dune: House Atreides", the prequel to Legendary Pictures live-action adaptation of author Frank Herbert's "Dune", is written by Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson and illustrated by Dev Pramanik, with a cover by Dan Mora, now available :

"...set in the years leading up the to the 'Hugo' and 'Nebula' award-winning 'Dune', 'Dune: House Atreides' transports readers to the far future on the desert planet 'Arrakis' where 'Pardot Kynes' seeks its secrets.

"Meanwhile, a violent coup is planned by the son of 'Emperor Elrood', slave 'Duncan Idaho' seeks to escape his cruel masters and a man named 'Leto Atreides' begins a fateful journey.

"These unlikely souls are drawn together first as renegades and then as something more, as they discover their true fate - to change the very shape of history..."

"Dune", the 2-part live-action, science fiction feature adapting the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert is directed by Denis Villeneuve ("Blade Runner: 2049") starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Charlotte Rampling ("Zardoz"), Jason Momoa ("Conan The Barbarian") and Chang Chen.

"...set in the distant future amidst a feudal interstellar society in which various noble houses control planetary fiefs, 'Dune' follows 'Paul Atreides', whose family accepts the stewardship of the planet 'Arrakis', aka 'Dune'.

"While the planet is an inhospitable and sparsely populated desert wasteland, it is the only source of 'melange', or 'the spice', a drug that extends life and enhances mental abilities.

"Melange is also necessary for space navigation, which requires 'foldspace' multidimensional awareness and foresight that the drug provides.

"As melange can only be produced on Arrakis, control of the planet is thus a coveted and dangerous undertaking...

"...involving multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the factions of the empire confront each other in a struggle for control..."
