John Carpenter, the filmmaker behind classic comedy adventure "Big Trouble In Little China" (1986), starring Kurt Russell as 'Jack Burton', isn't too keen about the upcoming sequel to his film, after being left out of the creative process. "They want a movie with Dwayne Johnson," said Carpenter. "that's what they want. So they just picked that title.":
"You can't remake a classic like that, so what we're planning to do is we're going to continue the story," said sequel producer Hiram Garcia.
"We're going to continue the universe of 'Big Trouble in Little China'.
"Everything that happened in the original exists and is standalone and I think there's only one person that could ever play Jack Burton...
"...so Dwayne would never try and play that character..."
Although he has been sidelined from the upcoming production, Carpenter continues to script new adventures of his "Big Trouble" creations, including Boom! Studios' sequel to the original film...
...continuing the adventures of 'Jack Burton', in "Big Trouble In Little China: Old Man Jack", co-written by Anthony Burch, illustrated by Jorge Corona and Rahzzah.
"...'Jack and his increasingly improbable team...
"...break into the 'Tower of Skulls' to save an old ally...
"...who could change the tide of this fight...
"...if they can make it in time..."
"Big Trouble In Little China: Old Man Jack" #1, now available is also written by Carpenter and Burch:
"...here is the story of old man 'Jack Burton' and his final ride in the 'Pork-Chop Express'.
"The year is 2020, and hell is literally on Earth. 'Ching Dai', sick of relying on screw-ups like 'Lo Pan' to do his bidding, has broken the barriers between Earth and the infinite hells, while declaring himself the ruler of all.
"Jack Burton is alone in a tiny corner of Florida with only his broken radio to talk to, until one day it manages to pick up a message. Someone is out there in the 'hellscape' and they know a way to stop Ching Dai..."
