"Batman" Prequel "Pennyworth"



"Pennyworth" is the newest, 10-episode, live-action, 'Batman' prequel TV series, focusing on 'Alfred', the butler of 'Bruce Wayne' when he was a young British SAS soldier, based on characters published by DC Comics, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, starring Jack Bannon, Ben Aldridge, Ryan Fletcher, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett, Paloma Faith, and Jason Flemyng, premiering July 28, 2019, on Epix:


"....'Alfred Pennyworth' (Bannon), a former British SAS soldier forms a security company and goes to work for young US billonaire 'Thomas Wayne', during the 'swinging' 1960's in London, UK.


"Characters include 'Dave Boy', a long-time alcoholic friend of Alfred's who served with him in the army, army buddy and ladies man 'Bazza', 'Bet Sykes'...



"...a spirited sadistic sharp-tongued woman who rivals against Alfred, 'Lord Harwood', an enemy of Alfred who works with Bet, 'Martha Kane', Thomas' love interest and the future mother of 'Bruce Wayne'..."


Cast also includes Polly Walker as 'Peggy Sykes' and Jessica Ellerby as 'The Queen'.


Bruno Heller ("Gotham") and executive producer Danny Cannon will serve as showrunners for the first season.


Debuting in DC's "Batman" #16 (April 1943), by writer Don Cameron and illustrators Bob Kane and Bill Finger, 'Alfred Thaddeus Crane Pennyworth' is depicted as Bruce Wayne's loyal and tireless butler...


...housekeeper, legal guardian, best friend, aide-de-camp, and surrogate father figure following the murders of 'Thomas' and 'Martha Wayne'. As an ex-Special Operations Executive of honor and ethics with connections in the international intelligence community, Alfred has been called 'Batman's Batman'.
