PlayStation Productions "Twisted Metal"

Sony's new "PlayStation Productions" are adapting to film, the 'demolition derby' video game "Twisted Metal" as a TV series, according to Sony Pictures' CEO and chairman Tony Vinciquerra:

"Twisted Metal", debuting in 1995, is a series of vehicular combat video games published by Sony Computer Entertainment, appearing on PlayStation consoles, the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3.

"...the demolition derby permits the usage of ballistic projectiles, machine guns, mines, and other types of weapons up to and including satellite-based and nuclear weapons. Players choose a vehicle and an arena to engage in battle with opposing drivers. A variety of weapons and upgrades are obtainable by pick-ups scattered throughout the stage. The last driver alive is the winner..."

PlayStation Productions was formed to select 'PlayStation' game properties best suited for adaptations through Sony Studios, led by Asad Qizilbash, vice president of marketing at PlayStation, overseen by Sony Interactive Entertainment chairman of Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden.

"We want to create an opportunity for fans of our games to have more touch points with our franchises", said Layden.

"When fans beat a 40-50 hour game and have to wait three-four years for a sequel, we want to give them places they can go and still have more of that experience and see the characters they love evolve in different ways..."
