Sneak Peek new footage, plus images from "Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)" now shooting in LA under the direction of Cathy Yan, based on DC Comics 'all-girl' crime-fighter team, targeting a February 7, 2020 Warner Bros. Pictures release:
The new movie is intended to be the eighth film in the 'DC Extended Universe' and a spin-off from "Suicide Squad" (2016).
Directed by Yan from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, cast includes Margot Robbie as 'Harley', Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ella Jay Basco and Ewan McGregor.
"...since the events of 'Suicide Squad', 'Batman' has disappeared, leaving 'Gotham City' unprotected from crime, with 'Harley Quinn' breaking free of the slimy 'Joker'.
"Then when young 'Cassandra Cain', finds a diamond belonging to the criminal 'Black Mask', Harley recruits 'Black Canary', 'Huntress' and 'Renee Montoya' to help protect her..."
"...so don't ever make her do a standalone film."
"She’s got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn't seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space...
"And then of course having a female director to tell that story. And giving a female director the chance to do big budget stuff.
"I love action films. I’m a girl. What, are we meant to only like a specific thing’?” So it was hugely important to find a female director for this, if possible.
"But at the end of the day — male, female — the best director gets the job and Cathy was the best director."
Actress Mia Sara guest-starred as 'Harley Quinn' in the original, live-action TV series "Birds of Prey".
