"White Boy Rick" is the new drug crime thriller, based on a true story, directed by Yann Demange, starring Richie Merritt as 'Richard Wershe Jr.', Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bruce Dern, Bel Powley, Piper Laurie and Matthew McConaughey, opening September 14, 2018:
"...blue-collar father (McConaughey) and teenage son (Merritt) relate to each other during the time 'Wershe Jr' became a confidential informant, to a drug dealer, to being abandoned by the FBI and sentenced to life in prison, serving 30 years..."
Bruce Dern ("The Cycle Savages") plays the kid's grandfather and Piper Laurie ("Carrie") his grandmother. Cast also includes Jonathan Majors, Y.G., Taylour Paige, Rory Cochrane and Brian Tyree Henry, produced by Darren Aronofsky ("Black Swan") and Scott Franklin’s Protozoa Pictures.
