According to reports, Sony Pictures will acquire and develop designer Klaus Teuber's "Catan" aka "The Settlers of Catan", a multi-player board game that has sold more than 22 million copies in 30 languages, into a series of feature films:
First published in Germany (1995) as 'Die Siedler von Catan', players assume the roles of 'settlers', each attempting to build and develop holdings while trading and acquiring resources.
"We’re excited to be working with Sony to bring the iconic world of 'Catan' to life," said producer Gail Katz ("Air Force One").
"As huge fans of the game, we’re struck by the endless possibilities of stories that it could inspire. It’s not every day that you have the opportunity to work in a world beloved by millions of people..."
