A New Female Superhero Movie ?



According to reports, Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn ("Drive") has confirmed his interest in directing a superhero feature for Warners based on a popular DC Comics female superhero:


"You know the one I want to do? I want to make 'Batgirl'," said Refn, referring to a project dear to "Avengers" director Joss Whedon. "Let's get Warners working on it."


"...it would probably be great fun.


"I very much enjoy my freedom creatively, but I also would love to make one of those big Hollywood films that costs a lot of money...


"...and has a lot of people running around with cell phones and all that insanity..."



'Batgirl' aka 'Betty Kane' (named after 'Batman' creator Bob Kane) debuted in DC Comics (1961) courtesy artist Bill Finger and writer Sheldon Moldoff as 'Bat-Girl'...



...then replaced by 'Barbara Gordon' in 1967, the daughter of 'Gotham City' police commissioner James Gordon...



...in "Detective Comics" #359, titled "The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl!" (1967) by writer Gardner Fox and illustrator Carmine Infantino. 



Upcoming DC Comics' -based Warners movies now include "Suicide Squad", opening August 5, 2016, "Wonder Woman" June 2, 2017, "Justice League" November 17, 2017, "The Flash" March 16, 2018, "Aquaman" July 27, 2018, "Shazam" April 5, 2019, "Cyborg" April 3, 2020 and "Green Lantern Corps" July 24, 2020.
