"Captain Marvel" Movie Updates

Marvel Studios' announcement of a big budget, female-led "Captain Marvel" movie, is not only good news for female fans looking for 'empowerment' in a 'male-dominated' industry, but also good news for male fans who enjoy looking at strong, beautiful women:

"This film has been in the works... and one of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it, " said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.

"This Captain Marvel’s name is 'Carol Danvers'...her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm..."

'Carol Danvers',  created by Marvel Comics' writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Gene Colan, debuted in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 (March 1968), recruited into Air Force military intelligence (Special Operations) and becoming the youngest security captain in NASA history.

After an investigation into the interstellar alien 'Kree Empire', she befriended Kree soldier 'Mar-Vell', got knocked into a damaged 'Kree Psyche-Magnitron' and her genetic structure became altered, making her a half-Kree superhuman.

She resigned from NASA, developing a dual personality due to the Psyche-Magnitron's alterations, donning a costume the Psyche-Magnitron created for her to ease her body's changes.

She took the name 'Ms. Marvel' after her friend Mar-Vell, and established herself as one of New York's premiere superheroes.

Working with the 'Avengers', she established herself as a valuable member, possessing superhuman strength and durability, the ability to fly at six times the speed of sound and the discharge of explosive blasts of radiant energy from her fingertips.

She can also absorb other forms of energy to further magnify her strength up to the force of an exploding nuclear weapon.
