According to reports a classic character from DC's "Batman" and "Detective" comic books will be the first villain to debut on the developing Fox dramatic TV series "Gotham":
'Oswald Cobblepot' aka 'The Penguin' will be the first 'Gotham City' villain to appear on the new series.
The character was created by illustrator Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, debuting in "Detective Comics" #58 (December 1941) as a a short, rotund man known for his love of birds and specialized high-tech umbrellas.
A mobster and thief, he fancied himself as being a 'gentleman of crime', with a nightclub business providing a cover for criminal activity.
According to Kane the character was inspired from the advertising mascot of "Kool" cigarettes – a penguin with a top hat and cane.
