"The Walking Dead": 'Michonne' Horses Around

Sneak Peek a new "compelling image" from Season 4 of AMC's ultra-violent 'zombie' dramatic TV series "The Walking Dead" picturing character 'Michonne' (Danai Gurira) taking care of business on a new "reliable means of transportation", according to series executive producer Gale Anne Hurd.

Debuting October 13, 2013, Michonne will be in a more sword-swinging, cavalry mode, astride her new horse 'Flame'.

"With gas at a premium," said Hurd, "with the fact that vehicles break down, I think we would return to the days of horseback riding and you can graze them as you go in a place like Georgia. You don’t have to carry food for them.

"They feed themselves, so to speak. It goes along with the new approach this season of sustainability. With a horse, you can go through the woods. You can get around obstacles. You can’t do that in a vehicle.

"If a tree falls and blocks the road, you can’t go through the forest. You’re not going to make it through. It’s actually much more of a useful choice. Not only that, but Michonne looks so badass on it."

"I’ll tell you this," said new series showrunner, script writer Scott M. Gimple, "Danai can ride that horse. She does an amazing job. Initially I was a little afraid. I think she was a little confident about it, but I was pretty amazed."

"I'm proud of myself", said Gurira, "Because I learned how to ride a damn horse.. when I got on that thing, I thought I was going to be able to handle it...This is a huge beast and it has very sharp instincts. It really expects you to know what you’re doing or it’s not going to listen to you..."
