Matt Damon Gets "Behind The Candelabra"

Sneak Peek footage from director Steven Soderbergh’s HBO Films production, "Behind the Candelabra".

The TV movie stars Michael Douglas as 1950's celebrity pianist, TV host 'Liberace' and Matt Damon as his partner 'Scott Thorson'.

The film is based on the book "Behind the Candelabra: My Life With Liberace" (1988) an autobiographical novel by Thorson.

In 1956, an article in 'The Daily Mirror' by columnist 'Cassandra' (aka William Connor) mentioned that Liberace was "…the summit of sex—the pinnacle of masculine, feminine, and neuter.

"Everything that he, she, and it can ever want… a deadly, winking, sniggering, snuggling, chromium-plated, scent-impregnated, luminous, quivering, giggling, fruit-flavoured, mincing, ice-covered heap of mother love..."

Liberace responded with a telegram that read: "What you said hurt me very much. I cried all the way to the bank", suing the newspaper for libel.

In 1982, Thorson, Liberace's former chauffeur, sued the pianist for $113 million in palimony after he was let go by Liberace.

The case was settled out of court in 1986, with Thorson receiving a $95,000 settlement.

Produced by Jerry Weintraub, with a screenplay by Richard LaGravenese, "Behind the Candelabra" premieres on HBO, May 26, 2013.
