Beckinsale Digs "Eliza Graves"



Actress Kate Beckinsale ("Underworld") will star alongside Michael Caine and Sir Ben Kingsley in director Brad Anderson's thriller "Eliza Graves" for Millenium and Nu Image, based on the comedic short story "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether", written by author Edgar Allen Poe in 1845.


Production will start in Bulgaria, June 21, 2013, with Beckinsale playing a 'Harvard Medical School' graduate who accepts a job at an insane asylum. In Poe's short story :


"...a person visits a mental institution in southern France, known for a revolutionary new method of treating mental illnesses called the 'system of soothing'. After touring the grounds of the hospital she is invited to a bizarre dinner, joined by twenty-five to thirty other people and a large, lavish spread of food, accompanied by musicians.


"It is then realized that the staff have replaced the system of soothing with a much more strict system, based on the work of 'Doctor Tarr' and 'Professor Fether', with the patients having overthrown their doctors and nurses, usurping their positions and locking them up as lunatics.


"It is then revealed that the dinner guests are the patients who had just recently taken over..."
