Paul Thomas Anderson's "Inherent Vice"


Now that Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" is in the can and ready for a Weinstein release September 2012, the director is working on his next film project, the 1970's set California detective story, "Inherent Vice", based on author Thomas Pynchon's 2009 fiction novel of the same name, to star Robert Downey Jr. 


"...in Los Angeles, winter 1969 and summer of 1970, the arrest and trial of the despicable 'Manson Family' is a current event. 'Larry Sportello' aka 'Doc' a private investigator and lovable 'pothead', receives a visit from his former girlfriend 'Shasta Fay Hepworth', now having an affair with real-estate mogul 'Mickey Wolfmann'. Shasta asks Doc to help foil a plot allegedly hatched by Mickey's wife 'Sloane' and her lover, 'Riggs Warbling', to have Mickey admitted to a mental health institution..."
