AMC Looking Into "Area 51"

AMC, the home of Emmy-winning series "Breaking Bad" and "Mad Men" is planning to develop author Annie Jacobsen's non-fiction book, "Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base" as a TV series, with Gale Anne Hurd ("The Walking Dead") attached to executive produce.

Located in the southwestern portion of Lincoln County in southern Nevada, 'Area 51' is a 'remote detachment' of Edwards Air Force Base :

"...it is the most famous military installation in the world. And it doesn’t exist. Located a mere seventy-five miles outside of Las Vegas in Nevada’s desert, the base has never been acknowledged by the US government-but Area 51 has captivated imaginations for decades. Myths and hypotheses about 'Area 51' have long abounded, thanks to the intense secrecy enveloping it...these rumors stems from the fact that no credible insider has ever divulged the truth about his time inside the base. Until now..."

According to the investigative TV series "Conspiracy Theory" hosted by former Navy SEAL, Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura, the area supports a structure 20 floors underground, where the US government has been funding military projects since the 1950's, exempt from environmental laws.

"There's no way you can ask anyone here a question," said Ventura as he approached the area with his camera crew. "We pay the taxes, we pay the freight, but they don't have to account to anyone. They just set the rules, and we're expected to obey them and not question them – or go to jail, or get shot if you walk past an orange pole out in the middle of the freakin' desert."

"Our government and our military are pulling something over on us. They're spending billions of my money and your money and they don't have to account for a damned cent. And if they're building all these space age weapons, why are we still sending soldiers off to die?"
