"Green Arrow" Takes Aim @ CW

CW confirms that a "Green Arrow" TV pilot, adapting the DC Comics superhero archer, is being developed by writers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg ("Green Lantern").

"Green Arrow" joins other new TV pilots in development, based on DC Comics superheroes, including "Booster Gold", "Deadman" and "Spectre".

Created by Mort Weisinger and George Papp, "Green Arrow' first appeared in "More Fun Comics" #73 (November 1941), as 'Oliver Queen', a billionaire and former mayor of 'Star City'.

Dressed like 'Robin Hood', Green Arrow is an archer who invents trick arrows with various special functions, including glue, net, explosive, time bomb, grappling, fire extinguishing, flash and tear gas arrows.

Originally developed as an archery-themed 'Batman' vigilante, the character has developed over the years into a voice of left-wing and progressive politics.

The 'Green Arrow' also appeared in the live-action, Vancouver-lensed "Smallville" TV series.
