Ridley Returns To Retiring Replicants

Sir Ridley Scott ("Gladiator") has now confirmed that his multi-million dollar budgeted return to the "Blade Runner" universe, since directing the original 1982 feature, will be a 'sequel', with none of the original characters returning.

Scott's "Blade Runner" film was based on author Philip K Dick's novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep".

"It would be a gross understatement to say that we are elated Ridley Scott will shepherd this iconic story into a new, exciting direction," said producers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove.

"This is a once in a lifetime project for us. Everything Ridley does as a filmmaker is fresh. I believe he sees an opportunity to create something that's wholly original from the first 'Blade Runner'."

In "Blade Runner" actor Harrison Ford, played retired ex- cop 'Rick Deckard', who is forced to hunt down and terminate genetically engineered android 'replicants', led by insane "Roy Batty' (Rutger Hauer) and his psychotic lover 'Pris' ( Daryl Hannah).

It was never made clear in the film if Deckard was also a replicant, or what kind of life, he and spared replicant lover 'Rachael'' (Sean Young) shared when they escaped into the Canadian north.

"This is a total reinvention," said Kosove. "And in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."
