"Kung Fu Panda 2" Kicks Up $650 Million Worldwide


DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. reports that its summer release "Kung Fu Panda 2", has grossed over $650 million globally to date, making Jennifer Yuh Nelson the highest-grossing female director ever, of a feature film at the worldwide box office.

"Kung Fu Panda 2", the $150 million, computer-animated action comedy film, distributed by Paramount Pictures in Real D 3D and Digital 3D, is the sequel to the 2008 feature "Kung Fu Panda".


"On behalf of everyone at the studio, it is my pleasure to congratulate Jen on having reached this awesome milestone on 'Kung Fu Panda 2'," said DreamWorks Animation's Chief Creative Officer, Bill Damaschke, "a particularly notable achievement given that this was her directorial debut."

Prior to directing the film, Nelson was a 'dream sequence director' on 2008's "Kung Fu Panda", story artist on DreamWorks Animation's "Madagascar", head of story on "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas", story artist on "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" and publisher of several independent comic books.

"I am humbled and happy that audiences around the world continue to respond to the story and characters in 'Kung Fu Panda 2'," said Nelson.
