Amber Heard Hops To "The Playboy Club"

Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner will offer Playboy's October 2011 issue, available September 16, 2011, for only 60 cents (the price of a 1961 issue).

The promotion links up the publication with the debut of NBC's new 1960's retro dramatic TV series "The Playboy Club", starring Tony Award winning actress, Laura Bernanti.

Hef said that because Playboy earns more money from subscriptions than it does with newstand sales, the shortfall expected by the near give-away will be covered by increased advertising for the special issue.

Debuting September 19, 2011, "The Playboy Club", set in 1963, focuses on the employees of the first Playboy Club in Chicago.

Along with Bernanti, cast includes Amber Heard, Eddie Cibrian, Naturi Naughton, David Krumholtz, Leah Renee, Sean Maher, Jenna Dewan, Wes Ramsey and Troy Garity.

Development of the series, originally titled "Bunny Tales", began in 2009 under executive producer Chad Hodge, as a co-production between 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Entertainment, with Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo executive producing.

Heard recently defended the series at a 2011 Television Critics Association panel.

"This is about choice," said Heard. "Ultimately (the series) is a different generation with different opportunities and different expectations for women."

The series has been picked up in Canada by Citytv, airing on the same night as the NBC telecast.
