Columbia Plugs Into "Flatliners"

Columbia Pictures is planning to remake director Joel Schumacher's 1990 feature "Flatliners", that starred Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing.

Writer Ben Ripley ("Source Code") will draft the new "Flatliners" screenplay, for producer Larry Mark.

"Nelson wants to see if there is anything beyond death, but his classmates are extremely apprehensive about the idea. After much debate, the five students move forward with the experiment.

"Nelson is 'flatlined," and his experience in the 'afterlife' is interspersed on-screen with his classmates' attempts to resuscitate him.

"After regaining consciousness, Nelson says, 'You can't break it down into specifics, but there is something there'..."
