"...set in the Middle Ages, the evil wizard 'Gargamel' (Azaria) discovers the village of the 'Smurfs' and chases them into a wooded area. The Smurfs get scattered and 'Clumsy Smurf' (Anton Yelchin) wanders into a 'forbidden' grotto, followed by some Smurfs. Since it's also a blue moon, a magical portal within the grotto transports the Smurfs to present-day Central Park in New York, as they take shelter with 'Patrick Winslow' (Harris) and 'Grace Winslow' (Mays) and try to find a way back to their village before Gargamel finds them..."
'The Smurfs' (aka 'Les Schtroumpfs') were first introduced as a series of comic strips by Belgian cartoonist 'Peyo' (Pierre Culliford) in 1958. "The Smurfs" will be released by Columbia Pictures, July 29, 2011.
