MacFarlane Gets High Off "The Flintstones"

Seth MacFarlane, the creator of "Family Guy," "American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show" will reboot the 1960's animated TV series "The Flintstones".

MacFarlane who got his start in amimation working for Hanna-Barbera, has worked out the rights issues to bring the HB property to 20th Century Fox where he will develop the property as a network animated sitcom.

The series originally aired September 30, 1960 to April 1, 1966 on ABC. Produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, "The Flintstones" (basically a cartoon take-off of "The Honeymooners" starring Jackie Gleason), followed a working-class 'Stone-Age' man, his family and best friend.

The show is set in the Stone Age town of 'Bedrock', where dinosaurs, saber-toothed tigers, woolly mammoths, and other long-extinct animals co-exist with barefoot cavemen. Like their 20th-century peers, these cavemen listen to records, live in suburban split-level homes carved out of rock, and eat out at restaurants, yet their technology is made entirely from pre-industrial materials and largely powered through the use of various animals.
