Sneak Peek Nickelodeon's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"

Nickelodeon's first season TV reboot of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" has received a 26-episode order to air in late 2012.

According to Nickelodeon, the latest incarnation of TMNT will be "funnier and ninja-ier."

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" debuted in 1984, in a self-published, Mirage Studios comic book, written by Peter Laird and illustrated by Kevin Eastman.

Main characters are turtle 'Leonardo', the leader of the group who wears a blue mask and wields two Japanese 'katana' backswords, turtle 'Michelangelo' who wears an orange mask and wields a pair of traditional Okinawan 'nunchaku' sticks, turtle 'Donatello' who wears a purple mask and wields the 'ishibō' (bō) staff and turtle Raphael, who wears a red mask and wields two traditional Okinawan 'sai' dagger-shaped metal truncheons.

'Splinter', the Turtles' 'sensei' and adoptive father, is a Japanese mutant rat who learned the ways of 'ninjutsu' from his owner 'Hamato Yoshi'.

'Shredder', is the leader of the evil 'Foot Clan', also known as the villainous 'ninjutsu' martial master 'Oroku Saki'.

'April O'Neil', a former lab assistant, turned TV reporter is a human companion of the Turtles.

'Casey Jones', a hockey-masked vigilante, also human, is one of the Turtle's closest allies.

"'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' shares a comedic sensibility with the Nickelodeon DNA," said Nickelodeon President Cyma Zarghami. "We are extremely happy to have the opportunity to be able to focus on this property and creatively re-introduce it to a new generation of kids."
